Yes. You read me right. I am about to suggest to you a way to save money by GOING OUT TO EAT.
What would you consider to be a “Frugal” price to pay for a dinner that feeds 3 people (one of those being a toddler who eats as much as a Daddy when it comes to this particular meal)?
How about $6.35*?
Because that’s how much a large, one-topping pizza costs at Papa John’s when you order the carry-out special. And that’s after tax. All you have to do is call, order, specify that you want the carry-out special, then go get your pizza.
And it’s PAPA JOHN’S. My all-time, favorite pizza chain. Of all time. Ever.
This is our favorite fall-back plan when we’re headed home after a long day of, say, Christmas shopping and we (read: I) just doing feel like making anything.

*Price does not include soda, pop, or coke. If you choose to purchase soda, pop, or coke, then you are forfeiting any attempt at a frugal dinner idea.
But you can, you know. I’m not your boss.
Papa John’s is my fav. pizza place too! There is a difference.
I love Papa John’s and what a great deal. After talking to hubby, I see a date night in our near future. Thanks for the tip.
We don’t have Papa Johns here, but our East of Chicago has a Thursday night deal on their buffet — B1G1F. And kids 3 and under eat for free… so we could all go and eat for $6.25… not counting the tip. I agree– ~$6 for 4 people’s dinner is pretty cheap! 🙂
if you think thats a good deal, wait till you hear this. if you go to little caesars you can get a $5 large pizza, and the best thing about it is you don’t even have to call ahead. they’re called hot-n-ready and all you do is walk in, hand them a $5 bill, and they give you your pizza. you can only get pepperoni or cheese, but with olivia i’m guessing thats what you get anyways. then, with all that extra money you are saving you can run to wal-mart and get a $.89 2-liter. it’s super-dee-doooper!
We love Papa John’s too!
Hi,
I found your blog by following a link to the split pea soup recipe. I made the soup tonight for my family and it was a success, so I printed the recipe on my blog, too. I gave the credit to you, of course, because it’s your recipe. But I just wanted to make sure that’s okay. If it is not, please let me know and I’ll take it down.
By the way, we share the same faith and taste in soup. Though I think our parenting philosophies may differ slightly.
Thanks for the recipe. You were right – it really is good.
great tip! thanks for passing it along. 🙂 we are fans of papa johns here too.
My favorite out-to-eat treat is Applebee’s. Their appetizers are 1/2 price between 4pm-6pm. My son and I typically order a “dinner” of spinach and artichoke dip, chicken quesadillas, and boneless chicken wings for LESS THAN TEN DOLLARS! And often come home with a bit of leftovers.
Can’t beat that for a sit-down, eat out meal.
