- I hung my clothes out to dry.
- We used cloth diapers.
- And cloth wipes.
- I learned to play the CVS game.
- I made my own laundry detergent. (Until that proved problematic.)
- I stopped going to the mall.
- We rented movies from the library.
- I made our meals from scratch.
- We shopped at gently-used children’s clothing stores.
- We were satisfied with what we had and waited on the Lord for what we wanted.
It’s amazing what a list can do. A to-do list can overwhelm you. A worry-list can exhaust you. A thankful list can restore you.
This list encouraged me. When you are used to saving money and cutting corners everywhere you can, it becomes the norm. You cease to see it as anything extraordinary; it’s simply how you live. Writing this list reminded me how active we are at pursuing frugality.
Here’s to another year on a Grad Student’s Stipend!

What a great list… these are things that my husband and I do, as well! It’s amazing the corners you can cut when you really want to. I just love living frugally!
We use cloth diapers too and love them! What kind do you use? Nice list, by the way, we do much of the same things!
I just stumbled across your website from Crystal’s blog and can’t wait to read more about being a “natural mommy” (something I’m intensely interested in!). Thank you!
Have you tried Rosa Soap or Zote Soap for your laundry detergent? I’ve heard that they are better on CD’s. 🙂 Or have you tried a mix of the borax and washing soda (I part each) and using a TBS or so in your wash with the diapers. And for some suds you can use a tsp of dawn dish soap.. 🙂 Then you wouldnt need the store bought detergent.:)
I especially appreciate #10. Attitude affects everything! It’s hard to find contentment in our crazy world, but it’s sooooo worth the effort!
