Say that five times fast. Actually, you know what? Just say it once.
‘Tis the season for runny noses. Add to that the teeth violently pushing their way through my little guy’s gums and you get a constant stream of drippage.
Oh, but just reach for that Kleenex box and he’ll leap right out of your arms.
He shakes, he squirms, he screams.
(What I’m trying to say here is, “He does not like getting his nose wiped.)
One day, while in a particularly goofy mood, I, on a whim, started dabbing at his leaky nostrils with accompanying sound effects.
And guess what? HE LIKED IT. He REALLY liked it.
Boing-a Boing-a seemed to be the favorite, though I’m sure there were others.
It’s a simple tip, really, but it made all the difference to me, so I thought I’d share.
What amazing (or simple) tips have you found? Go tell Rocks in My Dryer. (After leaving me a comment, of course.)
(Because I love me some comments.)
(But first, go back and try to say the title.)
great title….great plan:-)
Ha! What a great tip! I just wrote a post about getting boogers out! Check it out. It doesn’t sound as fun as yours though!

What a great idea … I love it!
Any ideas for face washing … what noise does a cloth make on a greeby tomatoe sauce covered face???
I like that! The catchy title alone made me curious!
We use reverse psychology on our 2y/o. “Don’t blow your nose”. Oh, man… Gets her EVERY time.
Gypsy, any weird noise or goofy expression works around my place. : )
LOL!!! i love this tip!!
OK, I have to try this! Scout hates her nose wiped and I end up with it all over my hand, her cheek, my hair (Cause she tries to bury her head when she sees the tissue!) and any other place she can try to hide her face. Now I will try Boing Boing noises while wiping GIRLS noses!
What a great title and what a great tip! I use sound effects for lots of things. Now that my girls can blow their noses with assistance, I say “I’ll huff and puff and BLOW!” It works the majority of times!
Ah, sound effects. That’s what little boys are all about! I enjoyed reading your post!
There’s a whole book about this kind of thing, called “Playful Parenting.” I intend to read it someday…
i’ve found that my kids always respond really well to this type if thing.
blessings,
Karla
LOL – what a fun title and post. It really is the simple things, isn’t it? We use sounds to make things a little easier, too.
This is a follow up. IT WORKED!!! Scout woke with an icky runny nose and I boinged and she laughed and let me wipe it!!!
Yeah Beth!! Thanks!!!
