**They’re home! Everyone but Lexi, that is… Her daddy will be retreiving her tomorrow, though! Thank you for your prayers, and thank the Lord for His answer to them!**
September 2, I woke to the sound of my cell phone ringing out “Larry Boy” at an hour I hadn’t previously thought existed. Okay, so It was only 6:30 in the morning. But still.
I wasn’t mad. Because the cutest picture was gracing the screen! I had been sent a multimedia text from Jes (of Beauty from Choas). Caylee Grace had been born!
(If you haven’t checked out the pictures yet, WHAT’S KEEPING YOU?!)
Things were going great, she was nursing well… until today.
We’re assuming that the milk that recently came in is coming in too strong for the newborn, and all the air she’s taking in while gulping it down is making her feel full when she really isn’t. I’ve suggested some things to help relieve the strong let-down, and they also have her drinking expressed milk from a bottle after nursing to try and fill her up more.
So the “little bit” of jaundice she had earlier has gotten worse, because she won’t nurse for longer than five minutes on each side. And without nursing, she won’t be able to “flush” out that jaundice. The girl needs to pee!
Jes had been doing incredibly well, having just given birth and all, but with the worsening jaundice and having to stay these extra days in the hospital, she’s growing more and more worried/anxious/stressed, and just plain misses her other baby girl, Lexi!
So I’ve been praying all day that Caylee would:
- Nurse long enough to be full. Really full!
- Wet those diapers!
- Attain normal billiruben status.
- Go home, healthy and soon!
- Feels peace and God’s soveriegn plan through this upsetting/unnerving time.
- That she is able to take the routine-switch of leaving the state with relatives until her mommy is able to leave the hospital with her baby sister.
How wonderful it is to have great friends. Thanks for all your prayers. The nurse is giving us hope that we might be able to leave tonight- we’re waiting on the pediatrician. Caylee just had a good feeding, and peed and pooped. She’s all alert right now, of course they just took her to do a car seat test (they hook her up to a machine that makes sure she’s breathing good while in the car seat- something they do for all ‘late preterm’ babies) .
I had that problem, and I just popped the baby off at letdown, letdown into a rag, and put baby back. 🙂
*sometimes* it’s also a sign of reflux or dairy sensitivity (or both). Reflux can be managed effectively in many ways, but unfortunately the only way to manage the dairy sensitivity is for mom to cut out dairy from her diet (it takes two weeks for it to take effect as well).
