Hey all, so I got out the ol’ camera card and put a whopping four – count ’em: F-O-U-R – pictures on my computer from the last week.
And of those four, I only took one. And it was of dinner tonight.
Last week, I was pretty much feeling my worst. Exhausted, nauseated, and overwhelmed with dishes/laundry/everyday-picking-up.
And then on Thursday and Friday, we were blessed with a visit from the lovely Melissa (Josh’s younger sister) who needed a subject to video for her film-making class. She was making a John and Kate Plus Eight-type documentary on the frugal, natural environment in which we raise our kids. It was loads of fun.
Then, I got this awesome gift in the mail: Jes had sent me her SeaBands! I experimented with them all weekend, but it wasn’t until Sunday that I realized they worked best when worn ALL DAY. So today was pretty much awesome. But last week was shot.
So I leave you with one picture taken by Auntie Sassa (Melissa) of a normal scene in our house:
Benjamin’s snacking on an apple while his sister works diligently on her “Ee” coloring page and I look like I’m in the middle of saying “Wow, Olivia, great job!” as I head out the door into the garage to do something laundry-related.
And, because I’m sure you’re dying to know, this is what we had for dinner tonight:
It’s marinated shrimp on rice with a side of peas. I just don’t want to work longer than 10 minutes at a time in the kitchen these days, so shrimp was an obvious answer for some quick and tasty dinners this week.
It’s a super easy recipe. Ready?
Ingredients
2 Tbs canola oil
2 Tbs soy sauce
1 Tbs honey
1 lb (mine was 12 oz) shelled/deveined shrimp (mine were also already cooked – Go Aldi’s!)
Defrost shrimp. Mix oil, soy sauce, and honey. Marinade shrimp in sauce for at least an hour. Skewer shrimp and broil for 4-5 minutes (or grill, if you can brave the cold).
There. Done.
(I’m assuming you know how to make rice? And peas?)
It was pretty good. Hit the spot for me, definitely. Josh, though, says it’s not in his top ten. But his top ten take much longer than 10 minutes to prepare.
What did you do last week? Did you take more pictures of loved ones than I did? Share with me below in Mr. Linky. (Be sure to link to your Meet-and-Greet PAGE and not your site’s homepage, thanksomuch.)
I like your shirt. 🙂
Oh what fun pictures! I like.
Sea-bands got me through my brief period of nausea. I slept in them since I was afraid to take them off, and plus I was worried about how I’d feel in the morning.
It’s amazing how they work, and I hope they make you feel better!
I so wish I would have known about SeaBands. I thought I was dying the first trimester with my second. I really don’t see how people go nine months with sickness like that. I literally wanted to crawl in a hole a stay until it was over! Not an option for a mom with a toddler though! Good luck and I hope they continue working well for you!
Dear Beth,
This isn’t the right place for this question, but I wasn’t sure how else to ask you. My husband is also a “perpetual grad student,” and we learned this week we are expecting. We’re thrilled by this blessing! But also nervous… I’ll stop working once the baby arrives. He gets a stipend, but it’s small. Since you’ve navigated these waters, I was hoping you could offer me some advice (I don’t know you, but I love your blog!). I have insurance now with my job, so I’m not sure quite what to do about payment for the birth since my insurance will change right before the baby comes– as in, I’ll be uninsured when I quit my job. I’d like a natural birth, but my husband is worried about an in-home midwife. Even now, going to my usual OBGYN would cost over $5,000 for the birth since I have a high deductible with my insurance. Anyway, could you please give me some guidance? What do you wish you knew when you started on the mommy journey? I’m so happy but also overwhelmed about the financial side of this announcement, and I have no one else to ask.
Thank you for your help!!
In Christ,
Sarah
I wish I could read your shirt, but I couldn’t. It’s a cute picture and dinner looked yummy.
My very fast food has been eggs. = ) I usually try to mix in veggies, cheese, and sometimes meat, but eggs on their own or in a burrito is my 10 minute meal. I pushed it to 20 the other day when I made eggs in one skillet and bacon in another followed by some potatoes chopped tiny and fried in the bacon grease. My homemade hashbrowns made me feel like a kitchen diva and even my husband didn’t mind having eggs again. = )
Best you could make changes to the blog name title The Natural Mommy » Meet-and-Greet: It’s Still Monday… to something more better for your content you write. I enjoyed the post yet.
