Heya.
(I’m Midwestern. I can’t say “Hey y’all”, as much as I’d love to. So you’ll have to settle for “Heya.”)
(But actually, I’m in Missouri right now.)
HEY, Y’ALL.
(That felt goooooooooooood)
So, yeah, we’re in Missouri. And for those of you who don’t follow me on Twitter, it was an interesting train ride. Something about a brake shoe wedging itself up into the wheel well of the cafe car and a 2 1/2 hour delay…
But we got here. And it’s been fun. At least the weekend was fun. But now Aunt Shannie’s off taking her high school finals, Gammy’s at work, and Pop Pop’s workin’ on pastor-stuff over at the church. So besides the dishwasher, DIRECTV, and disposables, it’s just like being at home.
Without Josh.
(MISS YOU!!)
He returned from Boston yesterday, where, in all his bright optimism, he said his interview “didn’t go too poorly.” They are actually supposed to get back to him TODAY (I know, WOW.), so I’ll let you know as that unfolds.
And while he was feasting at the Cheesecake Factory (on their dime) and observing all kinds of historical monuments, here’s what we were doing:
It’s been a very educational trip, actually.
Olivia learned how to wrap White Elephant gifts,
Benjamin learned how to fix a dishwasher. (Twice.)
And we all learned that Aunt Shannie can be a bit weird.
Really. You should hear our rendition of Chorus of the Bells.
Show me what you did this past week. Post your pictures, and put the link to that post (not your blog’s homepage) below in Mr. Linky. Can’t wait to see them!
So explain to me who can say y’all and who can’t. Cuz I wouldn’t consider Missouri part of the south. But maybe it is, I’ve never been to Missouri.
Ashley: Hmmm… anyone south of St. Louis?
Always trust Joanna will come through with a boring, technical definition: In the Civil War, Missouri was officially part of The North, but still permitted slavery like The South, so really was kind of in the middle, like Kentucky, West Virginia, and a couple others. If you look at a map of Slave states vs Free states, Missouri’s in The South, if you look at a map of Union vs Confederate, it’s in The North.
If you can say Y’all in Kentucky, you can say it in Missouri 😛
interesting bit of history…on the North vs South thing, lol
On the other hand I’m in NH and I say y’all so figure that one out. =0)
Looks like you’re having fun, while missing your hubby. Great pics!
I think people just jealous of the South and say y’all no matter where they live. 🙂 I would say CULTURALLY the South is Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and perhaps also Kentucky and Virginia. Then of course there are the weird states with a blend of southern and their own culture: Louisiana and Texas. As far as Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, etc. go… I’m not sure where they stand. Of course, I’ve never been to a lot of those states so maybe I’m wrong.
