In case you missed it, we’ve been having fun battling Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. A whole two weeks of fun. Fourteen days of swabbing noses twice a day (to four different noses). Applying cream four times a day (to two different bottoms). Administering antibiotics twice a day (to two different children at two different dosages). Giving nightly bleach baths (to two very willing children.)
We needed some help keeping track:
Everyone got their own sticker chart for their own medications. Even The Daddy and The Mommy got sticker charts to keep track of their nose-swabbings. As you can probably not see from the tiny pictures, Olivia only missed one dosage of cream. And we had to stop the nose-swabbing early because we ran out. So I thought we did really well, especially since that included traveling to Illinois for Easter!
I took Olivia back to the doctor about half a week after the regimen ended and she was declared “all better.” Although the only reason they can declare this is because there are no new boils. The old boil hasn’t completely healed yet; the doctor said it could be a couple more months. But it’s not open and draining and it definitely doesn’t hurt her. It’s just a small lump under the skin that is slowly (hopefully) going away.
So I’m keeping an eye out for ANY new developments, and praising the Lord that diaper changes have become simple again! No creams, no liners. Just wipe, dipe, and go! It’s been MONTHS!! (Because of the initial sores that we kept slathering Balmex on).
Hooray! The evil bug has been defeated! And the sticker chart is full! What’s the prize?
YAY!!! no more bottom cream or nose cleaning!
The prize is that no one has to have a cotton swab shoved up their nose anymore.
YAY!
I hope it’s gone!
MRSA is a big mess in prisons although there no one gets anything to combat it!
Lizzie – Oh no! I hope your hubby has been spared!
Well this time last year it was around. I haven’t heard that it is now.
Hopefully you’re all on the upward trail!
I will be praying for you, that it really will not return, and if it does not, please send me the names of those creams, so I can discuss it with my doctor.
I only wished it was that easy for us to get rid of MRSA. Savannah,my daughter, has Cystic Fibrosis and she now has cultured MRSA in her sputum from her lungs. She was just recently
in the hospital getting IV antibiotics to help her breathe easier.
I PRAY that you all continue to be healthy.
