When we first moved here, we had to eek by on a half-time teaching assistant salary. And we did it. Then we came into more money by the way of various grants. And we could breathe easier.
And we had another baby.
And another.
And we became comfortable with the spending of the moneys. We, er, I thought there was no end to the grants.
And the grants have ended.
So I’m sitting here trying to remember how, exactly, we did this three years ago!
We’re at a crossroads, again, here in August. Josh is applying for jobs left and right as we await the QE results.
In the meantime, the air conditioner is off, the dryer sits un-used, and we avoid fast food restaurants unless they’re giving out free food.
So I just wanted to give a shout-out to the other frugal mommas (and papas and non-parental frugal people as well) out there.
Hi! I’m back! What did I miss?
We’re with you. Remind us how to do it when you figure it out. 🙂 We’ve declared this a no spend month(meaning nothing other than needs), I am amazed we’ve made it this long already. (one week!) we have bought groceries, and today I had to buy shaving cream for Eugene. he’s got sensitive skin and is picky about it. but I think $2.30 in the past 9 days is good!
I was very comfortable spending like an affluent yuppie untill about a week ago….
Tuition bill for Hubby’s Dr. program. Yikes!
And now bad rumors swirling about my job. It’s clamp-down-time.
I hear ya. We’ve cut out the dryer, the fast food, and just about every single purchase that is anything other than 100% necessary.
My best defense, though, is good planning. Good budgeting, shopping the flyers, planning to use up all the food in the fridge before it can go bad, etc.
If only I weren’t subsisting on too-little sleep and surrounded by needy babies!
Hey girl, send me your sizes of your kiddos, and we’ll do another round robin of clothes for you. I love shopping for your kids! Don’t worry, I shop the deals, but anything I can do to help you out. God has blessed me so greatly, now it’s my turn to bless you.
I’m sorry… but I know you can do it!!
