It’s a tad taller than I’d hoped for (and I say “hoped” because I never can do math well enough to be sure that it’ll work out just like I planned…), but it’s a crown, and it’s a cute one, at that!
I think it kinda looks like a pirate crown.
A pirate princess crown.
Anyway, I top stitched all the way around the top:
I then verrrrrrry carefully stitched around the elastic so it would stay in place and hopefully not twist: (Make sure to not stitch INTO the elastic…)
Then I sewed the ends together.
Then noticed the peaks on the crown weren’t coming together like I’d wanted, so I sewed it together again.
And again.
That baby’s not coming apart. I also zigzagged along the edge a couple times so it wouldn’t fray.
Wanna see what it looks like??
Do ya??
Here you go….
(Why, yes, that IS a popcorn popper in the background. Your point?)
Hey, I needed a model, and Olivia wouldn’t very well do, now, would she?
I was originally planning to stuff it a little, to be sure it would stand up and not flop over. But I couldn’t make it not look retarded, so I ended up not. It stands up great anyway!
And there you have it! The first of the Craft Day Projects… FINISHED!
And this past weekend, Josh cut out the parts for a catapult for Benjamin. We’re on our way to a homemade Christmas! Exciting!!
I’ll be back tomorrow with more, hopefully!!

Anywho, here’s MckLinky:
That looks awesome!
Out of curiosity, how do you work on these without the intended recipient seeing? Are you doing all of this during naptime?
wow. so cute. makes me wish I had a girl. or a child who would wear anything on their head. but, as I have neither, I wont be making one. lol
I should participate in craft day. I’m making both of my boys rag quilts to go on the beds that ‘santa’ is bringing for them.
Wow! That is really cute! I really like the O on the front. I also like the model 🙂
How are you doing it without the kids seeing them?
Your model did a very good job–Love it! So cute!
Your crown is really cute! I think I may have to try making one. My youngest daughter would love it, and it looks easy enough to make a few for my nieces! Thanks for sharing! ~Gina
adorable! and I am also wondering how she hasn’t seen it…
Ok, FINE. Wanna know my secret? Sigh. I did it this weekend. When Josh took the older two to Menards to buy wood for his project. And Levi was sleeping. I’ve been working on a cape today.
I wrote these posts last night and scheduled them to go today because I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get online at all, since my lappy’s in the shop and Josh had to take his to school. (No about of begging would dissuade him.)
Turns out the dinosaur of a desk top still works – it just shuts off randomly. So I’ve just been using it to twitter and comment.
I feel like I’ve been lying to you all.
Will you forgive me?
Oh, but they do see us working on stuff (in the beginning phases, or on another child’s gift.) And when they ask, we just tell them it’s a surprise. And to our own surprise, it works. They don’t ask questions beyond that.
I don’t think it is lying. You did the work, and besides you were working on something. I really enjoyed having you comment on things today and keep spurring me on to work on things. Thanks for doing this today!!! I can’t wait for the next one.
It turned out so well!
I will start projects with my kids around and they tend to walk away if I become secretive when they ask what it is – they know it’s probably for them. And with the older two (10 and 7) I can now say – I’m going to my craft room, I’m making something that might be for one of you so stay out unless it’s an emergency! It works so well, sometimes I tell them that even when I know I’m not making something for them, because well, some days mom just needs a break LOL! With the 3 year old, I just wait until after bedtime because you just never know when he’ll decide to pop in LOL! =)
