Well, I survived the sewing machine thus far!  It hasn’t all been perfect, but I think it’s turning out okay regardless…

I sewed the inner crown together – just on the top, leaving the sides open.  Then I had the fun task of pulling it all right-side out.  I used closed scissors to poke all the little points out.

Lesson:  When sewing peaks like that, apparently, you’re not supposed to go down that deeply.  It makes it all bunchy and weird:

I took out the stitches at the bottom of the little valleys and it was able to lay flat again.  I didn’t bother re-stitching or anything, since I was just going to sew it down onto the larger crown anyway.

See, look.  All flat now.

I sewed an ‘O’ into the middle (for “Olivia”) and pinned the inner crown onto the outer crown:

Then I sewed it down, using a white thread since I didn’t have a pink one that wouldn’t clash:

This time, when sewing the larger, outer crown together, I didn’t make the hem go as deeply:

I also sewed some elastic to the bottom of the inside of the crown.  Just on the one end, I’ll finish it up later, after the crown itself is mostly together.

So this is what it looks like now:

So all that’s left is to turn it inside out, top stitch, fasten elastic, sew the ends together!  Hope it turns out okay… stay tuned!
