I mentioned my past month has been a bit busy.
So yesterday, our first normal day, I decided to take the day off.
I didn’t get up to run, even though I had missed my two previous runs as well (forgot to take my shoes on our last adventure, oops!).
I didn’t even get up early enough to shower before Josh left. (I would have had to get up at 6!) And I didn’t attempt to shower at any point throughout the rest of the day.
Didn’t even bother getting dressed. Jammies are comfy!
Let the kids watch a movie in the morning. (Actually, Josh put it in when the kids got up at 7. He even fed the kids before leaving to let me sleep a little longer!)
Didn’t do any laundry.
Did the bare minimum of dishes (one of the two loads sitting on the counter).
It was shaping up to be a lazy day.
A lazy day with four poopy diapers. Really, Levi? Four?!
A lazy day with berry-ridden vomit strewn all down the hallway and splattered across the bathroom door.
A lazy day that ended with a freshly bathed babe being placed in my arms… who then promptly peed all down my front.
Of course, my children would choose my day off to cover me in their bodily excretions. Of course.
When was the last time you tried to take a day off? Did it go better than mine did?
I had to LOL when I read your post. Just this week, I’ve had a similar experience. My 4 month old son has reflux and, thankfully, is what they call a “happy spitter”. He just spits up, A LOT. He peed on me a few times last week but that is nothing unusual. However, he also got thrush last week. So, I went out and got gentian violet, you know the purple stuff? Well, the pharmacist warned me about it not coming out of fabric but I never thought of the purple spit up! So, colors are abounding here as well and I’m so thankful we have mainly hardwood floors and not carpet!
Last time I tried to take time off was last february after my c-section. When my (then) 4 year old decided to get a stomach bug and threw up all over his room 2 days after I got home from the hospital. Which made me:
1) pick him up to carry him into the bathroom (not allowed after a c-section) and
2) want to join in the vomiting – NOT good so soon after a c-section.
I’ve given up on time off now, since apparently it makes my children try to torture me.

For me to truly have a day off, it means I am out of the house away from kids, cleaning and cooking! OR it means that my sweet husband takes the kids out. We actually do try to make something like this happen every few months or so, though ideally it would be once a month.
Sorry to hear you had such a rough day!
I never take a day off–for just that reason. When I do, life is just crazy.
